Overview
Established in 1910, Kone have become one of the major players in providing lifts and escalators. They have factories located globally and for many years, Whiteghyll have had the privilege of being associated with their assembly plant in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Project Brief
Work closely with the Kone design team and provide a safety device to prevent people from climbing on to moving escalators.
Manufacture the safety device and deliver to various locations for the Kone engineering teams to install.
The Challenge
The anti climb barriers installed to each escalator must perform the desired health and safety function whilst being inconspicuous.
The Whiteghyll Solution
The final designs were checked and approved by both of the Kone and Whiteghyll design departments. 10mm clear Cast Acrylic was selected as the most suitable material to meet the demands.
Production Process:
Stage 1: cut the material in Whiteghyll’s machine shop on a CNC machine and diamond edge polish to ensure a smooth safe finish.
Stage 2: transform the flat sheets of acrylic into the correct shape through heat and bonding techniques using jigs and moulds.
Stage 3: inspection and packing
Stage 4: distribution to various locations (final examination and installation conducted by the Kone team.)
